Tiles from Menaldum for Erasmus artwork in Rotterdam
Tile factory Albarello delivered 1400 tiles for the front side of the artwork which represents the house where Desiderius Erasmus was born. Erasmus was humanist and philosopher. The artwork is located in the exact same spot as his birthplace and consists of a portrait of Erasmus. Different statements of the humanist can be read on the tiles.
The tiles, which are produced at Albarello, are made with a special ceramic printing method and treated with traditional painting technology. The placement of the tiles is an expertise and is done by the Frisian Andries Planting. He has worldwide experience in placing tiles to artworks in the open air. Some tiles are even decorated with golden accents. The art work will be revealed by Mayor Aboutaleb on the 28th of October, which is Erasmus’s birthday. Read more about Erasmus artwork in Rotterdam
